Dennis Calabrese might yet get some sleep in Gilberts. You'll recall he's the man needing ear plugs thanks to the early morning and late night horn blasts of those Union Pacific locomotives near his Timber Trails home.
This news might interest folks near Fox River Grove, Cary and Crystal Lake train tracks as well.
Federal Railroad Administration spokesman Steve Kulm called to say towns have other options besides the very expensive crossing gates Gilberts thought necessary to create a "quiet" or "no train horn" zone.
The gates are just one of several options depending on each crossing's accident history and traffic volumes, Kulm said.
