Dec. 18--People taking large doses of the popular pain reliever Celebrex are more than twice as likely to suffer a heart attack than those not taking it, the drug's maker said Friday.
Pfizer Inc. issued an alert for users of the drug but stopped short of removing it from the market. Nearly three months ago, Merck & Co. withdrew Vioxx, another popular pain reliever, after a study found a similar increased risk of heart attacks and other serious side effects.
Ironically, Vioxx users were told they could switch to Celebrex, which was considered a safer version ...
