The newly expanded stage at First Baptist Church of Lambert's Point will light up Friday night with a once-shelved rendition of Langston Hughes' "Black Nativity," a retelling of Jesus' birth through traditions in African-American churches.
Gossip and gospel mesh well in "Black Nativity," said Bertha Heard, who practices a little bit of both in her role as a mourner.
"Sometimes we older ladies are really nosy," said Heard, who describes her age as in "the 60s ." "It's realistic and a lot of fun."
