Australia's budget carriers are trying to beat each other with their in-flight entertainment offerings. Qantas subsidiary Jetstar says it will soon offer passengers a 2kg Digeplayer device, which can hold up to 50 movies, TV shows and games. Virgin Blue says it will install live pay TV systems in the back of all its seats from mid-2005. Jetstar says Virgin's systems add at least 900kg to an aircraft's weight and will therefore increase fuel costs. Virgin says flights are short in duration and passengers only want news or sport and not movies. Jetstar is also planning to offer hot meals.
