LOS ANGELES _ Glen Johnson has been on the losing end of a number of controversial decisions during his 53-fight career.
But this time he came out on top.
Johnson followed up his stunning knockout of Roy Jones Jr. in September by hammering out a 12-round split decision over Antonio Tarver on Saturday night at Staples Center.
Both fighters gave up their world titles rather than face mandatory challengers so they could decide who was the best light heavyweight in the world. Johnson relinquished his IBF 175-pound belt and Tarver vacated his WBC title.
