Altel Corp. has completed its $143 million purchase of wireless assets from U.S. Cellular and TDS Telecom.

Alltel announced the purchase of wireless assets from the companies, subsidiaries of Telephone and Data Systems Inc., in August. The deal gives Alltel partnership interests in seven Alltel-operated markets in Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio and Wisconsin. The partnerships include the metropolitan areas of Burlington, Fayetteville, Raleigh and Durham, N.C.; Jackson, Miss.; and Eau Claire, Wis.

The deal also gives Alltel wireless properties in Fort Pierce, Fla., and southeastern Ohio, two areas new to the rural telecommunications company.
