Halfway through a three-year project definition and risk reduction study, MBDA (Paris, France) is currently producing a prototype of the Missile de Croisiere Naval, also known as Scalp Naval. The prototype will serve for trials enabling data to be assimilated for computer modeling as part of the risk reduction activities. Under development through a contract awarded to MBDA by the French armament agency DGA (Delegation Generale pour l'Armement) at the end of 2002, the Scalp Naval is being designed to meet a requirement for a common deep-strike land-attack weapon both for vertical launch from the French Navy's 17 future FREMM multipurpose frigates and for torpedotube launch ...
