Although President Bush did not prevail in Lane County on Nov. 2, there is much for Republicans to be optimistic about. The red undercurrent of the GOP grass-roots volunteer organization is growing beneath the shallow blue of a Democratic campaign organization animated by paid operatives.
Lane Republicans can take heart in the more than 2,000 volunteers who made tens of thousands of phone calls on behalf of the campaign. They can rejoice that more than 4,000 Bush-Cheney '04 yard signs were distributed in Lane County by those volunteers.
