PUPILS studying GCSE history are to be questioned about television programmes and will also take brass rubbing, bringing fresh accusations of 'dumbing down'.

They will learn about the making of history documentaries on TV under controversial plans to make the subject more interesting.

Candidates will also go to brass rubbing centres, learn how to design web pages and research family trees.

The plan to make history studies more 'vocational' has aroused concern with critics warning it will lead to falling academic standards.
