The feature articles for this issue report findings for that population of new four-year college students who have been classified by their institutions as developmental or in need of remediation. JCRL manuscript reviewers routinely ask, who are these students who comprise the study sample? Studies of developmental college students typically report the academic skill level of the students relative to others in the institution, as assessed by SAT scores, high school rank or GPA, institutional placement tests, or state exams, as well as the skill level relative to students in other institutions that are more or less selective in admissions.
