Dec. 23--Science had long ignored the stone pyramids of Norte Chico, which rise about 100 miles north of Lima in Peru.
Though impressive to look at -- some of the terraced structures were as tall as an eight-story building -- early excavations didn't yield any gold or silver objects that would attract museums and collectors. They weren't seen as important enough to merit expensive radiocarbon testing, so their age was unknown.
