Article: Zimbabwe: Women activists appeal for domestic violence legislation.

2004 DEC 30 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Zimbabwean women activists planned to petition their parliament on December 10, 2004, to approve a 4-year-old Prevention of Domestic Violence Bill, reported the UN Integrated Regional Information Networks (IRIN, www.irin.org).

The activists, frustrated with continued delays in the bill's approval, chose the last day of the worldwide campaign dubbed "16 Days of Gender Activism against Domestic Violence." Earlier attempts to lobby the justice minister, Patrick Chinamasa, who is also the leader of the house, had been unsuccessful, the activists reported.
