TACOMA -- There was a time in the 1970s when Byron Dean Tolson could neither read nor write. After conning his way through four years at the University of Arkansas, the dunk-happy forward turned up in the NBA an illiterate man.
A decade later, Tolson admitted to his academic shortcomings in a Sports Illustrated story, whereupon he returned to school in Fayetteville, Ark., retook two-thirds of his requirements and, at age 36, earned an undergraduate degree in secondary education.
Two months ago, this time without media fanfare, the former Sonics forward donned cap and gown again as one of 1,500 Arkansas students ...
