Article: D-Day for cable bill in House Committee? (House Energy and Commerce Committee's cable television bill)

Washington - The House Energy and Commerce Committee plans to begin marking up a cable television bill on June 16, aides said. However, by late Thursday afternoon, no agreement had been reached on how key portions of the bill, notably program access and retransmission consent, would be handled.

A number of industry sources asserted that committee Chairman John Dingell (D-Mich.) had decided to temporarily pull out the bill's access and retransmission-consent provisions in an attempt to avoid a time-consuming referral to the Judiciary Committee.
