There's an old sports saying made popular by former Cubs manager Leo Durocher that tells us nice guys finish last.
Not true, though, in the case of Cary-Grove football coach Bruce Kay.
Kay is one of these guys you just don't see around high school sports that much anymore. In addition to being the school's head football coach he is also the athletic director, and has been for quite some time now.
Saturday night, Kay reaches the Mecca of high school football when he leads his team into the Class 7A state championship game at Memorial Stadium in Champaign against Libertyville.
