Mini DV is not a home video format. It is a mastering format. The Mini DV tape that you record with your camera produces one-of-a-kind items, capturing moments that will never be repeated and can never be replaced. But, if you have made a dub, or a copy of your original, even if the original tape should become lost or damaged, you can have a backup that years down the line may become even more valuable.
Because you are working with a digital format, you can make an exact duplicate of your master that, technically speaking, should be a clone of the original. But, Mini DV still is not what we would call a consumer format. You can't hand a Mini DV tape to someone and ...
