Jamie Perry dangled 30 feet in the air, up near the gym ceiling at Dennis Kenney Middle School, clinging to a beam. She knew the trip down would be both easier and quicker than the climb up.
She held on for a moment, not scared.
Then, she let go and pushed herself out into empty space.
She dropped steadily - but not too swiftly - to the gym floor, landing easily on her feet. A harness and a rope, the latter held securely by a physical education instructor, assured a safe landing.
Perry had just conquered "The Centipede."
