Dec. 31--Memphis hit the rewind button and rocked the world in 2004.
But the city's celebration of the 50th anniversary of rock and roll was as much about economic development as an excuse to throw a party with Elvis Presley's 1954 Sun Studio recording of "That's All Right" as the soundtrack.
"The whole purpose was to build brand awareness of Memphis and the incredible significance that Memphis music has culturally," said Kevin Kane, president of the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau. "I think that this has been one of the best campaigns that we've ever been associated with."
