Adrian Beltre raced forward Wednesday night and met Vladimir Guerrero's chopper about 40 feet from home plate.
The Mariners third baseman scooped the ball off the grass with his bare right hand, and then he made the most impressive part of the play.
He held onto the ball.
"I want to make every play I can, and sometimes I end up being stupid," he said. "A play where I shouldn't be able to get to it, and I throw to first even though the guy's going to make it anyway, and I end up throwing it away.
