CHILDREN'S HEART SURGERY CENTRE OPENS IN MINSK

On Friday President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko took part in the opening ceremony of the National Children's Heart Surgery Centre in Minsk.

The president's press office reports, Lukashenko ordered to start the construction of the centre as early as in July 2001, when he visited the cardiosurgery unit of the Children's Heart Surgery Centre at Minsk clinic No. 1.

In early 2000 Belarus registered nearly 17,000 children with congenital heart disease. The primary incidence of congenital heart disease in children grew twofold in 1990-2000.
