One of the more fun aspects of collecting surplus arms is catching the wave when a new model or supply suddenly rolls across the market and a wave of Enfields just broke on our surplus shores. It is not a wave to miss.
I thought the good old days of surplus Enfields came to a screeching halt about two years ago. The supply of SMLE No. 1 Mk III and No. 4 Mk 1, 2, 1/2 and 1/3 rifles just seemed to dry up overnight. The last Enfield collectable to arrive in any quantity was the No. 5 "jungle carbine," but that racy little number disappeared almost as soon as it was advertised. Enfields of any persuasion even stopped showing up at gun shows, as did quality .303 ...
