Jan. 4--Joe Namath, the former New York Jets quarterback, decided to return his 400,000 shares in Vestin Group to the mortgage brokerage company and to accept $1.6 million for those shares and termination of his contract as company spokesman.

The Las Vegas-based mortgage brokerage on Monday announced the agreement, which ends a yearlong dispute over Namath's contract as spokesman. Namath appeared in several advertisements and commercials.

"This brings welcome closure to an issue that has been open for some time," said Steve Stern, public relations agent for Vestin.
