The Syracuse school board could be stuck with a roughly $7,100 bill from a grant writer hired without the board's authorization.
Several board members, in particular Education Commissioner Laurie Menkin, are annoyed that President Cynthia Kirby hired the consultant without board approval. Kirby could not be reached for comment Monday night.
"I don't believe that the board at this time is obligated to pay this amount," Menkin said at the board's Budget and Finance Committee meeting Monday.
