The Defense Department cracked down Tuesday on sexual assault within its ranks following a series of scandals that have tarred its reputation over the past two years.
The Pentagon announced new policies to intensify criminal prosecutions and enhance victims' privacy, said David Chu, undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness.
"The department is moving forward to make real changes and to make those changes stick," said Chu.
Waves of sexual assaults have rocked not only the Air Force Academy, but also deployed forces in the Pacific, Iraq and the Persian Gulf last year.
