Buster Brown, one of the nation's leading brands of children's wear, is being put up for adoption by its parent, Gerber Products Company. By far the largest baby foods manufacturer in the country, Gerber would like to sell Buster Brown and focus more attention on growing its core product lines, says Al Piergallini, chairman and CEO. "Gerber has a number of opportunites in the U.S. and abroad," he says. "We have decided to redeploy the capital invested in Buster Brown behind the long-term development of Gerber-brand core businesses around the world. For example, we recently acquired Alima, S.A., the largest producer of baby foods in Poland."
