New York: Oxford University Press, 2002. xix + 333 pp. Cloth, $60.00--This is a collection of thirteen essays, most of which first appeared in the mid-1980s, though one dates from 1963 and one, presented in 1993, was first published in 2000. The essays have as their common thread Singer's well-known commitment to a rational morality, but beyond that it is difficult to detect a theme or progression among them.
