YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. _ Yellowstone Lake is big, wild and stunningly beautiful.
It even has its own shoreline geysers, hot pools and mud pots _ something that equally pretty Lake Tahoe in the High Sierras on the California-Nevada line cannot boast.
The Absaroke Mountains rise to the east of Yellowstone Lake and create a stunning setting that is the largest roadless wilderness in the lower 48 states.
Roads run along 29 miles of lakeshore on the western and northern edges. Around the lake are four developed park areas.
Lake Butte Overlook on the northeast shore provides especially stunning vistas.
