Problems at Wis. site to cost Republic
Republic Services Inc. will pay nearly a half million dollars to resolve alleged environmental problems at its Kestrel Hawk landfill in Racine, Wis., according to the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
Under a settlement with the state, the company will pay $475,000 in forfeitures, surcharges and costs, state Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager said.
Alleged problems at the landfill included unauthorized landfill gas emissions and failure to maintain gas wells and leachate extraction pumps. The company also failed to handle leachate properly, allowed erosion to occur, and failed to ...
