LUNAR sightings aside, Elvis Aaron Presley officially left the building on August 16 1977. But when he died, aged 42, the King of Rock and Roll became an immortal icon of 20th century celebrity, and his music, like his legend, lives on.
So whether he's six feet under the Graceland soil, or flipping burgers in a diner somewhere in the Deep South, his birthday - when he would have turned 70 - is being celebrated by thousands of his fans all over the world.
