Imagine Italy without Italians. A tragic deprivation, obviously. But on the other hand, the noise, the litter, the insane driving... Istria, the triangular-shaped peninsula at the top of the Adriatic, was handed over to Yugoslavia after the Second World War and now belongs to Croatia. But every village, whether on the sea or in the mountains, is testament to the long Italian heritage.

According to Croatiansun, which since November 2003 has been championing the Croatian property market, Istria is the 'New Tuscany' and, for once, this tired term has a lot of truth to it.
