Jan. 11--CHENNAULT, Ga. -- Thurmond Lake's decimated bald eagle population showed signs of recovery Monday when wildlife observers documented a nearly threefold increase over last year.
"There were 10 mature eagles and four juveniles observed during boat and vehicle surveys," said Army Corps of Engineers wildlife biologist Jeff Brooks.
A similar census last year yielded only five eagles.
Mr. Brooks, who spent the day peering through binoculars at windblown water and pine-studded shoreline, was part of a four-boat team supported by observers in vehicles and a contract pilot who searched the 70,000-acre reservoir by ...
