OVER THE PAST TWO DECADES THE NORTH COAST OF THE DOMINICAN Republic (DR) has attracted tens of thousands of Canadians seeking an escape from winter. Most come back tanned and rested with memories of coconut rum drinks on the shores of sun-drenched beaches. Some venture farther afield--shooting rapids, exploring unspoiled bays or riding horseback along mountain trails.
