An Italian sculptor who lived in the 1400s has something in common with Hazard Street Middle School in Solvay.

Reproductions of Luca Della Robbia's work - called friezes - have been gracing the auditorium of the school since it opened in 1924.

"They are very decorative, quite ornate and a big part of that school," said Martha Lacy, of Jamesville, a member of the Solvay High Class of 1953.

"We got a tour through the school at our 50th reunion in 2003, and we posed for a photo on the stage. We saw them then, and it was such a delight," she said.
