PORPOISES are being rammed to death by bottle nose dolphins in a battle for survival and food along the coast of Wales.

Marine experts say attacks have tripled from 40 in 1995 to 120 last year, based on the number of dead harbour porpoises washed up.

The shocking statistics, drawn up for BBC Wildlife magazine, coincides with a blunt warning from the World Wildlife Fund. It fears many sea creatures, including the gentle harbour porpoise, as well as leatherback turtles and basking sharks, are under threat and decline in the Irish Sea.
