As I reflect on my first year in Eugene, it forces me to go back to my start in policing.

Twenty-six years ago, I became a police officer because I wanted to help people, just like thousands of others who become police officers. Also like many, five years into my career I almost quit, frustrated that I had not changed the world and nearly convinced that the world couldn't be saved.
