Jan. 20--NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. -- The city's Minority Business Enterprise Committee was on the brink of extinction little more than a year ago.
But with the advent of the city's Urban Enterprise Zone, the committee originally charged with helping women- and minority-owned businesses gain public contracts, has a renewed purpose, according to its members.
The city's UEZ program, which offers tax incentives, hiring credits and other benefits to city businesses within the zone's boundaries, was approved by the state in December.
