SYDNEY, Jan 20 Asia Pulse - Rupert Murdoch could reduce the potentially threatening presence of fellow media baron John Malone on News Corp Inc's (ASX:NWS) share register with a $US9 billion buyback, a report said.
Both News Corp and Mr Malone's US cable group, Liberty Media, had an incentive to reach an amicable solution, Merrill Lynch analysts said in a research note.
This could lead to a potential buyback of Liberty's $US9 billion holding of News Corp in a tax efficient manner, it said.
The report, which tips a deal by mid year, comes amid speculation about how Mr Murdoch will resolve an impasse with Mr Malone which began when Liberty Media ...
