Jan. 20--West Coast port congestion has been something of a blessing in disguise for Thomasville-based Old Dominion Freight Line.
Vice president of OD Global, Greg Plemmons, said the trucking company has seen a shift in volume from West Coast to East Coast warehouses. Plemmons said one reason companies are shipping to East Coast ports, even from Asia, is because of shorter turn-around times getting in and out of ports. Trucking companies often face longer waits at West Coast ports, driving up costs.
"So it's much more expensive for us now to go into most ports than it used to be," Plemmons said.
