For the past fifteen years, I have been writing extensively on the Akedah, (1) to develop an understanding of the text that deals with what I and many others have perceived as its baffling moral implications. In the back of my mind, throughout this period, there has been lurking the need to deal with the issue of how this event was intended to be transmitted in a believable way to Abraham's progeny.
