Thursday's celebration of Eid ul-Adha reminds Muslims of the long history of their faith. But Muslims also need to remember the holiday's significance in their own lives, Central New York's new imam says.

"We cannot just pick from the past and say, "Our ancestors did this.' What are you doing?" Taqiuddin Ahmed, spiritual leader of the Islamic Society of Central New York, said during a 9 a.m. prayer service at Syracuse's Oncenter.

"We generally talk about the past and are waiting for something to happen," Ahmed said. "We have to act. We have to work."
