Working around the clock in 12-hour shifts, personnel from FISC Pearl Harbor teamed up with Naval Reserve cargo handlers, Matson Navigation employees, and the U.S. Army to conduct the largest deployment load out for the Hawaii Army National Guard (HIARNG) since the Vietnam War. The 40-hour load out began on Friday, Sept. 10, and ran through Sunday, Sept. 12.
The load out and staging were initially planned for Ford Island, located in the center of Pearl Harbor, but a commissioning ceremony for the Navy's newest destroyer, USS Chung Hoon, took precedence, and the load out was moved to Fleet and Industrial Supply Center Pearl.
