Jan. 23--When two Minneapolis executives met for the first time at a Florida boat show, they came up with an idea that could make waves throughout the boating industry.
Their plan: Sell and rent fishing and water-ski boats through Gander Mountain Co., a chain of 82 sporting goods stores. Until now, at least, Gander Mountain had limited its boat sales to canoes, kayaks and small fishing boats.
Starting this spring, the company will sell three lines of Genmar boats, including a fiberglass model that costs up to $120,000. The company will rent polyethylene fishing, ski and family cruising boats.
