MOTORISTS would pay at least pounds 2 to drive into Wrexham to help tackle global warming, under shock Plaid Cymru proposals unveiled yesterday.
But the idea was immediately condemned as ``very damaging'' by the town's MP Ian Lucas, who warned shoppers would flock to nearby Chester instead.
Under Plaid's plans, the biggest four towns and cities in Wales - Cardiff, Swansea, Newport and Wrexham - would copy London and introduce congestion charging.
Legislation already exists to allow any local authority to impose road tolls, as long as the cash is used to improve local trains and buses.
