The Mobile Imaging and Printing Consortium this month released its first set of specifications for mobile-phone and printer makers, guidelines the group said will allow camera-phone users to print out their pictures. However, some in the industry wondered whether the technology will work as simply as advertised, and whether users would be interested in it anyway.

"Where's the market for this stuff?'' asked Michael King, a principal analyst at research and consulting firm Gartner Dataquest.
