Jan. 27--Shoppers checking out the first stand-alone Wal-Mart grocery stores in Southern Nevada on Wednesday were treated to not only grand opening festivities and a little rain, but labor-backed pickets protesting the markets' nonunion status.
Mike Gittings, a representative of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, said protesters -- both members and hired pickets -- will walk an informational picket line "indefinitely" at the four Wal-Mart locations, which will be the only nonunion grocery stores in the Las Vegas Valley.
