The Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park is home to a barred tiger salamander, the largest land-dwelling salamander species in the world.
These salamanders dwell in prairie ponds, marshes and farm ponds. They mainly live in New York, Florida and Ohio. However, they can also be found in Canada and Mexico.
The barred tiger salamander can grow to be 14 inches long. This salamander has black skin with olive and yellow-brown spots and stripes covering its body, giving it a tiger-striped look.
