Jan. 29--Department store and catalog retailer JC Penney Co. Inc. is closing its catalog call center in Bountiful on March 18, leaving 375 employees out of work, the company announced Friday.
The center currently employs 475, but 100 of those positions will be transferred to JC Penney's accounting center in Salt Lake City. About 90 percent of the jobs being cut are part-time positions.
A company press released cited an overall decline in catalog telephone orders as customers increasingly turn to online shopping, combined with the company's ability to process higher call volumes at other existing facilities, as the primary ...
