A QUARTER of first-time buyers are not factoring in the cost of stamp duty, Alliance & Leicester Mortgages has claimed.
In research carried out by the lender, only half of the 7000 adults interviewed in November realised stamp duty was an additional expense after beginning the mortgage-buying process.
The survey also showed that one in four also discovered that the cost of stamp duty could delay their attempts to get on the property ladder, with 25 per cent of first-time buyers saying the cost of stamp duty was stopping them buying a home.
