PROJECT OVERVIEW:
India-based NATIONAL THERMAL POWER CORP. (NTPC) is currently said to be considering the construction of a new power station in Sri Lanka. According to C.P. Jain, NTPC Chairman & Managing Director, his company is looking into the feasibility of building a coal or gas-fired power plant with an installed generating capacity of 300 Mw.
As things currently stand, NTPC has submitted a proposal to the Sri Lankan government. The new facility is reportedly part of the company's initiative to become a global company. NTPC, for that matter presently has a generating capacity of about 21,000 Mw and wants to add another 20,000 Mw by 2012.
