Feb. 1--SPRINGFIELD -- One month from now, residents will determine the fate of a $24.8 million bond to renovate and expand two of Springfield's three elementary schools.
Yet the future of the third school, in more ways than one, will be on the minds of voters as well.
The Park Street Elementary School is Springfield's largest K-5 school. Built more than a century ago and expanded in 1929, Park Street has served as the town's high school. If the bond passes, Park Street's days as a school would be numbered, as it would close once the other two schools are expanded.
